John was in the class of 76. I can not remember when he left of if I went first. I really cant remember back that far. He lives down around Hope. If I recall.
Tony,
I found John Massey today. Not sure if you remeber him he was in the class of 76. He is down around Hope Ark. Once I get additional details I will let you know. i am trying to get him on the page. Later - Ken
Hi Tony,
I missed the Great Pumpkin this year but I have the video. I just need the time to watch it!
My class is great and I am really enjoying teaching this year. I am doing report cards right now and they still stink! They just require so much time at home. I am in the office tomorrow. My principal will be out, so if everyone behaves, I can get some of them done in the office.
I hope all is well there. I know that grandbaby must be so much fun now.
Hi Tony! Thanks for the message. I believe that we communicated earlier on the previous site (?). I'll have to get organized and start posting pics and getting in touch with folks. Great to be here and it's wonderful to have this site to go to.
Regards,
Red.
Hi Tony hope you and your family are well! and are getting ready for the winter! how are they in your part of the country? here the darkness has stared at 5pm, and england has become State # 51 with there now celebrating Halloween and growing pumpkins, they never celebrated either pumpkin or Halloween when i lived here before!
Hello Tony. I lived overseas for 9 years. My father was stationed at Misawa Japan for 6 years. We went back to the US for 30 days to travel from the West Coast to the East Coast so we could catch the plane to Germany. I graduated in 1971 and spent another year in Germany working at the Base Exchange until 1972 when we came back to the US., That is when the shock hit me. So much had changed. I missed my friends I made in Germany and the classmates that I will most likely never see again. It is not like we will have class reunions as if we went to school in the US.
It has rained here every day but yesterday. It is back raining again. It is playing havoc with our work as we are putting liquid membran liner in the shower pand and those have to be water tested and show to hold water foor 24 hours. We can't get our stuff to set up as it is too cool and too damp in the building. All our other room tile is done. I have taken to wearing a mask when I go into the building as I think all the dust and particulates floating around are what is messing with my breathing and giving me so much trouble.
Sorry, It is on my Facebook Page. There is a missle launch video and beow that is the link. There is an Army unit shield and below that is the link.
Thanks, Ken - Check out as well the R/M Hotel Link I posted on my brats page. Ken
I just finished 10th grade at Frankfurt High then started 11th grade at Jacksonville. It was very slow to start . . . missed all my friends so much. We lived there for 8 years which is a long time for a military brat. I saw many come and go at Rhein Main while I lived there. My mom is German and her family is from Heidelberg. I finally did adapt to my new world (and it was so different here that in Germany). I never had friends like I did in Germany though. We were like family there. Unless you are one of us you just can't understand the feeling. Thanks for asking. Karin
Thanks Tony and understand. Can't be in two places at one time... Believe me.. I have tried. Please have a look at the link I posted today. I found a web page that covers in photos the Pershing Missle Program. As a civilian, my dad was incharge of these missles and the upkeep and updating of these systems. The history of this missle program pretty much out lines my dads career as well as out movements as a family. Have a look.
Hey Tony, Hope your doing well. I have been spending most of my time in Birmingham. We have been working three jobs in three states for most of the last month. It will be great to have a strong finish to a year with plenty of challenges.
Are you going to come to the get together in Dallas? It is an open invitation event. I know Larry McDonald, Jim Murphy, Bobby Pugh and I are planning to go. I may get Steve R. to run out with me as I will likely drive out. Let me know. Hope your doing well. ken
Your name sounds so familiar. What years were you at Rhein Main? Yes, our family moved to LRAFB and my parents bought a home in Jacksonville. We are all still here . . . guess we will call this our home since we've been here 26 years now. I moved to Little Rock closer to my job. Thanks for the comment Tony. And you are correct, this site is wonderful. As are the other sites . .. the gateway to europe, Rhein Main Air Force Base and Frankfurt American High School. I would never have found these if it were not for facebook. Facebook is awesome. It has allowed me to connect with friends from Germany and take a wonderful stroll down memory lane. The best childhood memories I have are from Germany. We loved living there - 8 years was not long enough. Thanks to all who have posted pictures to share with us.
Tony, sorry it took so long to get back to you, for about a week this site has been unresponsive and has frozen up on me everytime I log in. Glad you enjoyed the tunes, Im assuming you meant the you tube videos of my son and myself (squishy and squashy, the singing roadkill brothers).
I forgot about Bart, I knew there was another brother. All 3 brothers came from a good family.
I had about 3 cultural shocks. From Germany to Biloxi, MS and then Biloxi, MS to Tampa, FL and then my Dad retired (actually went to work in a 2nd career) in a small town in North Alabama. The people in the small town in Alabama sounds like Cabot. I wish I would have had the opportunity to take my boys to Germany and live about the same age as we were. The best I could do is travel with the boys to let them see the country in case they wanted to move somewhere else when they got older.
I have survived in my job with the same company for almost 25 years, it is probably because I'm so used to change.
Hi Tony,
I left a comment for Sylvia Bennett and saw your comment. You are so right about moving back to the states. It was a culture shock, more than I ever thought. Just like you we moved back after 9th grade. Went to Keesler AFB in Biloxi, MS for my 10th and 11th grade. You could tell the teachers and coaches treated the AFB kids a little different than the local kids, they favored the local kids. So glad before my senior year we moved to Tampa, FL (MacDill AFB) and I fit right in. Most of the local kids that went to that high school in Tampa were kids of retired AFB military. I had a good time and was so lucky to have ended up there. Even to this day when I meet someone who grew up as a military brat we hit it off so good and we usually have a lot in common.
You also mentioned Billy Clark, they lived in Langen-Terrace. What ever happened to them? He also had an older brother, Bobby Clark.
My older sister and I went to Frankfurt International School in Oberusal when we started high school and we went to the on base school prior to that. I think we lived in 602 (but I can't be sure). We were the first building, second stairwell from the back gate. A lot of the people who lived in our stairwell had young (preschool) children. The Rogers, both teachers, lived in our stairwell. They had their first child (I want to say Hannah, but I could be wrong) when we lived there. We did go to the AYA to hang out some (but we got home from school really late - so didn't hang out so much during the week).
I hate to admit how horrible I am at names but your last name doesn't ring a bell with me. It is possible that I never went to school with your sister - we lived off base for a couple of years and I went to 7-8 grade on base then we moved to Gateway Gardens and I went to a private school for 9th and 10th. When we lived on base, my friends were my neighbors ... not people I went to school with. My brother and my younger sister went to school on base all of those years - my brother is a couple of years behind me in school and my sister a couple of years behind him. When we lived in base housing we lived very close to the back gate.
Tony,
You were in my 6th grade class with Mrs Sykes! Do you remember....I was Sylvia Bennett. We lived in Germany from 1970-1974. We moved to Illinois just before my sophomore year. I think I saw one other person from our class...maybe James Walsh? Have you come across any others?
Sylvia Obernuefemann
Thanks Tony. I have the start of a cold and sinus issues this morning. I do not think it is the flu - the crud. I am going to the "Doc in a Box" and get me some Antibiotics as well as a flu shot. I will sleep it off over here this weekend.
Hope your well. More later.
