Haven't been on in awhile. Bill thanks for posting the newspaper clippings. It sure brought back some great memories. I was also able to prove to my sons that I played and was a half way decent player. I hope you are planning on going to Vegas. I need to get you my information, so if your ever back in Phoenix visiting family we can hookup for a beer or two. The Jr Rockets were really a great football team. Thanks again for the great memories.

Why should the last article be any different than the rest, here is my rendition.

Junior Rockets dump undefeated Pirmasens, 26 – 20

By Ron O’Harold

The Junior Rockets upset the Pirmasens Vikings here Sunday, 26-20. In the post season game Rhein-Main escaped victorious, stopping a Pirmasens team that went undefeated in their division and were acclaimed the 21st Support Command Champions.
Pirmasens drew first blood when running back Herman Brown broke loose from the Rocket defense for the score. The extra point attempt (PAT) succeeded.
A fired-up Rocket offence then drove 85 yards for their first score. Quarterback Frank Roithmeier handed off to Tom Fairhurst who plunged in from the three-yard line. The PAT failed and the Rockets trailed 8-6.
The second Rocket TD was a forced Pirmasens fumble by linebacker Dan Filla that was recovered in the end zone by Peanut Smith. Dan Hens put his kick through the uprights and the Rockets were on top 13-8.
Pirmasens started off the second half with a quick TD and closed the gap to20-14. The PAT missed. Roithmeier scored the final Rocket TD, plunging into the end zone from the two. The PAT failed and Rhein-Main led 26-17.
The Vikings scored their next TD early in the fourth quarter, but missed the PAT. In the last 26 seconds of the game Pirmasens took the ball from the mid-field stripe to the Rocket three. Rhein-Main’s spectacular defense held at the goal line and came away with the hard fought victory.
The Junior Rockets dedicated the game to their bus driver Ray Bailey, whose expert driving abilities averted a possibly serious accident returning from the Babenhausen game last week.
Rhodes broke the 100-yard barrier again, gaining 169 yards, which gave Rhodes a total of 1287-yards for the season.
Team captains that will not be returning next year, and were a big part of the team’s success were Eric Nobles, Tom Fairhurst, Dan Filla, Mike McConnaughey, Craig Carlson, Bill Cook, Ted Stephenson, Dan Hens, Adrian Rhodes, Curtis Jones and Richard ‘ Peanut ‘ Smith. Congratulations Jr. Rockets on your super season.

And a little something extra.
