I was on the Ravens - Played Bench most of the time. I was pretty new to football having grown up mostly in England and Germany. Me and that guy name Dumas were called "Killer 1" and "Killer 2" We went on later to play some pretty good ball. I remember the game we played in Bitburg and it was like 29 degrees and it was wet and snowing and cold as all get out. I remember the game we played against Frankfurt and it was on that mud field where everyone had walked their dogs. It was so muddy they missed one our touch downs cause they could not see the lines on the field. I also remember the car washes back by the motorpool where we worked weekends to pay for our letterman Jackets.
Played alot of intermural ball after that. I think the ravens went a way for a year or two and became the Jr. Rockets. Bout all the brain has left. If you have a team picture or any photos to share it would be cool. Ken Duck Martin AKA Killer 1!
I was with the Ravens in 1965 and 1966 under Coach Chuck Hall.I just heard from his son in the last few weeks. We were the undefeated Champions of the Main Valley both seasons. We played Mainz ,Butzbach,Ashaffenburg,Gelenhausen and Weisbaden. At the end of both seasons we played in the Pop Warner Bowl in what was then West Berlin. We played a few games in the snow and rain and mud and cold.At that time we played the first year over next to the old Base Hotel. Then in 1966 we moved over by the base Gym right behind the main stadium. We had the good fortune of having help from a former Ohio State Buckeye Quaterback who was an All American on the 1957 National Champions and winner of the 1958 Rose Bowl Game Dave Leggett who also had played NFL Football with the St.Louis Cardinals. He was a LT and was the player Coach of the Rhien Main Rockets both seasons. We had guys like John Lingley and Jim Davis and his brother and Russ Tatum and Wlley Johnson and Bruce Burns and Mike Tilley and Duane (Dewey)Patton and Garry and Steve Black and many others. My father retired in 1968 at Maguire Air Force Base in Wrightstown New Jersey where we stationed after Rhein Main.My father did fly in and out of Myrtle Beach Air Force Base many time during his time in the Air Force. My Mom and Dad moved here in August 2001 to Pawleys Island and I moved here on April 1,2007 so I am fairly new to this area as I had been living down in Marietta for many years.I do correspond with some of the former Ravens but it is good to hear from one of our Alumni.I was the announcer with a guy gentlemen by the name of Dewey Lowhman who had a daughter Debbie that was one of our cheerleaders. The last time I saw Dewey Lowhman was on June 30,1968 at Maguire Air Foce Base and retirement ceremonies.I did run into two of the guys from the Ravens at Burlington Township High School in New Jersey one night a high school wrestling meet I was at with my wrestling team from Northern Burlington County Regional High School outside of Maguire.Mike Tilley is supposed to be working up a roster of the old team so I have not heard from him lately.Did you know John Lingley by any chance?Keep in touch.Dan Palmer
I still have pictures from when I played on the Ravens. I played tackle, some center, and defensive line. We were actually pretty good! I still don't remember who coached us, but i'm sure i ran more than my fair share of laps for punishment.
